| Jones Custom Building has
made its mark in Mansfield, where builder Scott Jones has won the attention of buyers
shopping for a custom home in the $280,000 to $700,000 price range. He has also been
judged by his peers in the industry to win a number of awards for excellence. In 2001,
Jones Custom Building claimed the Grand Award in the Greater DFW Spring Tour of New
Homes, earning the highest number of points of any entry across all price ranges.
Every year that they have entered the competition, the company has won a 1st place or
finalist recognition for their entries. Where the word 'custom' has lost its true meaning, there needs to be another
description for the level of home offered by Jones Custom Building. All homes are custom
designed, custom financed and custom built with an "extra mile" service has even
entailed after move-in services as simple as changing a light bulb!
The company's typical client is looking
for all the bells and whistles in an efficiently sized home. One recent buyer is a local
pop musician who has recently risen to stardom after winning a national vocal talent
contest. While she could hardly be described as typical and could have afforded any number
of homes in the area, she sought many of the same things that other homebuyers look for
and recognize Jones Custom Building's attention to detail.
"Buyers today want to use every bit
of the space they are buying", said Scott. "Family sizes are smaller and people
travel more. They want luxury finish-out and the low maintenance lifestyle of gated
communities with common areas."
Scott considers his business blessed in
many ways. One way it is blessed is by the business team that he has built, which allows
him to concentrate on what he loves most - the hands-on construction. " I love to
build!" says Scott. His wife, Joyce, runs the office - it truly is a family business!
" Our team knows what needs to happen before the houses are built. This allows us to
properly evaluate the neighborhoods that we choose to build in ." said Scott.
Granite countertops, hard surface
flooring, custom cabinetry, painted tile murals, doorway transoms, and elegant trim are
some of the noticeable details. But other details that make a major difference may not be
noticed until one visualizes living in the home. There is attention given to where
furniture can be placed on the walls. Floor plans show thought in creating areas for kids
or mother-in-law apartments designed to function apart from the rest of the house,
allowing privacy for all the home's occupants. "Locker" areas for useful storage
of coats, shoes, schoolbooks and backpacks are designed as catch-alls, keeping the clutter
out of the rest of the house.
But Scott is quick to point out that
structural integrity, superior energy efficiency and products that reduce noise
infiltration are even more important to the value and enjoyment of the home. Engineered
site-specific waffle slabs, blown-in cellulose insulation, and house wrap on all exposed
walls (not just corners) are standard practice for Jones Custom Building.
"Our task is to keep on top of
costs and supervise the subcontractor team's work to assure that Jones Custom Building
offers the best house that money can buy in its price range, while keeping the average per
square foot price consistent in order for us to offer a competitive sales price,"
said Scott.
Selling the homes involve educating
buyers about painstaking effort the company goes to in order to deliver a superior home.
" Education is the main part of selling our homes," explained Scott. " The
key is teaching them what an apples-to-apples comparison actually is. Everyone immediately
notices our finishing details. We want to be sure they see and understand the benefits of
the other components that make our homes the superior choice."
"Having the right team and building
in the right area are a winning combination," said Scott. "Many of our home
buyers come from Arlington. They are drawn to Mansfield where they can be close to what is
familiar. Our accessibility to the downtown areas of both Fort Worth and Dallas draws
others from all over."
"Mansfield offers great schools and
has a proactive way of dealing with expansion,"added Scott. "We are fortunate to
have had the opportunity to learn lessons from other municipalities - what they have done
well and not so well. well-planned infrastructure and a carefully designed tax base have
made Mansfield one of the premier communities in the Metroplex. We're answering the strong
demand we see now in the $250,000 to $400,000 price range while we also keep our eyes open
in anticipation that Mansfield will draw buyers in higher price ranges very soon. We're
committed to Mansfield and we will be ready to answer the demand, wherever that leads
us."
Blessings in the business of Jones
Custom Building go much deeper, however, than just the good business decisions that Scott,
Joyce, and the rest of the team can attribute to themselves alone. Saying that they have
"a Christian foundation" has a double meaning. Burying a Bible and a prayer
written for the new homeowner in the foundation of every home is a tradition of Jones
Custom Building. Look closely inside every home and you will find the subtle but
intentional formation of a cross in the trim work.
"We've got another very important
partner that leads each of us in our lives and in our business," says Scott.
When not on the jobsite at work, Scott
Jones is rarely relaxing at home. Neither will you find him on Sunday mornings sitting in
a comfortable pew somewhere. He's more likely in East Fort Worth at the Church called
"The Slab" helping drug-addicted and other down-and-out citizens of our
community find answers that can change their lives. He and Joyce travel often to serve
their favorite ministry, Wings of Life, a Christian drug addition treatment center in
Mobile, Alabama. They regularly volunteer for mission trips to Mexico and Central
and South America.
You could also say that Scott Jones adds
to the quality of life for others in many ways. He provides beautiful and solidly built
homes in nice neighborhoods to add to the quality of life for his company's business
clients. To Scott, those accomplishments make him very proud, but pale in comparison to
the sense of accomplishment he gains from adding to the spiritual quality of life for the
less fortunate individuals that he takes the time to care for.
