Jones Custom Building literally grew out of demand. As Scott completed a home he had built for himself in the 1980’s, Scott had numerous offers from people who wanted to buy it. He ended up buying the lot next door and building a speculative home there. That one sold before it was finished and Jones Custom Building was established. Word of mouth has kept it growing ever since. “I don’t look at this business as a ‘job’ that I do to make money. It’s what I love to do. I don’t want to take on more jobs than I can comfortably handle the way I like to handle them. And that way is with close personal supervision. The majority of our customers are people who have been around the block before when it comes to buying a new home. They know exactly how to spot detail and quality. You have to be flexible and have the ability to deal with many different personalities-new homeowners, sub contractors, other tradesmen and vendors. It’s something you have to love to do in order to do it well,” states Scott.

Homebuilding is very important in the lives of Scott and Joyce. But it’s not the only thing they give their hearts and souls to. They try to share every talent they have been given to help others who are less fortunate. Scott is both frank and subtle about his beliefs. “Not all my customers know, but we have placed a Bible and prayer for the new homeowners in the foundation of almost every new home we’ve ever built. The Bible talks about the importance of a good foundation. Obviously, I can literally apply the importance of a good structural foundation in my career life as a homebuilder. I also believe that a man’s spiritual foundation is the source of everything good in life. Let’s just say we keep looking for ways to make our foundations stronger and stronger.”
